Using and learning to love new technology can be a steep learning curve, even for software engineers. But Lenses not only depends on users adopting Apache Kafka - their Developer Experience actually makes the technology far easier to learn!

The B2B video content and courses already out there to help people learn Apache Kafka basics were either paid, gated, or failed to relate to real business scenarios and applications.

Solution

We decided to create a series of free, open B2B videos to train both business people and engineers how to understand, navigate, and build apps on Apache Kafka. These tutorials would also onboard users to Lenses, as a valuable tool to explore data streamed by the technology.

Working with the deeply knowledgeable product team at Lenses, we scripted and storyboarded a set of explainer videos and animated graphic sequences to illustrate complex streaming technology principles.

We focused on slowly building in new concepts, and relating them to existing well-known ideas to make sure they could be easily remembered and understood.

We partnered with the video content maestros at Koekepeer to animate and edit the videos.
